At A New Conference

This week I am at Sonrise Baptist Church in Hartselle, Alabama for their annual Campmeeting. Pastor Brian Bridges and the saints have been wonderful hosts. We have got to fellowship with old friends and have been blessed by much of the preaching. With 2 days to go, we wait upon the Lord to speak to us.

My thoughts this morning turn to this fact: "emotions do not produce facts, but facts do produce emotion." If the Gospel is truly preached, if Christ is truly exalted, then the facts will make us emotional. Our Great Substitute who bore our sins and carried our sorrows is worthy of exaltation and the accompanying tears of joy and gladness for His tender mercies and marvelous graces. Would to God that modern Christendom could indentify! But too much is rank fleshly motivations designed to make the congregant feel good about himself rather than about Christ. Deliver us, Father, of such greedy exercises.

Lastly, my mother's baby sister passed in to Glory this past Monday morning. I will preach her funeral on Friday. At the last she told me that she had came to know Christ as both Lord and Savior. I pray that it was so. She tried, under the terror of cancer, to show fruit. All I know is that the thief on the cross escaped to Paradise with Jesus. Who am I to question anyone's confession? Does not Paul say, "whosoever shall call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved?" He did...and Christ does! So to my aunt I declare, "say hello to Jesus for me!"
