Iced in....

Oh how I hate to miss church!
But I live in the hills of southern middle Tennessee that just experienced an ice storm on Friday.  It began Friday morning with snow, then sleet and freezing rain.  The temperature dropped further and by noonday Saturday it was a balmy 25 degrees.

This morning (Sunday) it was 17 degrees, the roads are a sheet of ice and it appears no traffic will be moving today.  We have canceled services today not wanting to put any of our church family in harm's way.  I am praying that the sun that's now come out will thaw everything out and we can get back to the Lord's business.

Here's a little devotion for the Lord's day:

A FINE RESUME  Colossians 1:4

"Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints..."

Wouldn't you like to have this kind of resume?  I certainly would! Here is the evangelist of evangelists writing to you, and what does he say in his letter? Someone had told the evangelist "of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love that you have to all the Saints." Oh that all the Saints would have this said about them.

Our little church is hunkering down over Scripture at the present. We are endeavoring to go line by line, precept upon precept, through each book of the Bible. Why? We want to know more about our Lord and the power of His resurrection! Why? Because the more we know about our great God and Savior, the more our faith increases in Him. Further, this knowledge and faith of Christ increases our love for them that belong to Him. As a matter of fact, it increases our love for the lost and our enemies as well.

Knowing Christ intimately brings out those gifts that have been given us. As we walk and talk with Him daily, He is bringing about grand sanctification in our lives, conforming us to Him, as we are taking on His character. Christ's classroom is wonderful! Each lesson is a power pack of heavenly facts about Him that instruct us, mold and shape us, that we might be holy and blameless before Him in love.

Now I beseech you Brothers and Sisters, that you enroll in Christ's school. These folks at Colossae did not come by these wonderful accolades in and of themselves. These things said of them by Paul were so by a personal relationship with Christ, borne out by a knowledge of Him. Daily pleadings and studies had caused them to be thus. The Holy Spirit was working in them to will and do the Father's good pleasure. And as a result, Epaphras had delivered unto Paul a wonderful resume of them.

May we seek such a resume for ourselves. Not for boast or brag, but for the honor, praise and glory of our King. Heaven swelled with pride over these faithful saints at Colossae. May we have the same effect on Heaven and the folks around us as well.  To God be the glory: great things He hath done!
